Tid - Bortom Inom
Swedes can bring the umlauts, too. Tid hail from Linköping (and Stockholm) and have a bassist named Björn, a guitarist named Söderberg, and songs titled “Synvända” and “Västanvind.” I can’t do much with the Swedish lyrics other than bask in the profusion of umlauts and cute little circles above the letter “a.” (The one in Mikael Åkerfeldt’s name is almost angelic.) And that artwork! It screams “’70s synth project.” You had me at ELO.
Tid don’t bring progressive cheese, but psychedelic hardcore doom. That sounds like a bad MySpace description, but it’s literally true. Bortom Inom is like a cross between Cave In’s psychedelic pop period and their later return to heaviness. Spacy, gauzy tones alternate with huge, ball-dragging distortion, with midrange hardcore-ish screams. Tid evoke that Boston hardcore-gone-sludge vibe (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Zozobra), but more melodically; they’re keen on bittersweet oscillations between major and minor thirds.
I don’t understand why Tid aren’t on Hydra Head yet with Technicolor all-over prints by Aaron Turner on white hoodies. This EP is godlike. “Se” is a towering edifice of “awesome.” These four songs last almost half an hour, and almost make me want to start smoking weed. Best of all, this EP is free to download – in both MP3 and WAV versions, complete with artwork! Tid couldn’t have packaged this gift more nicely. Do them and your ears a favor, and grab this EP here.
Bortom Inom, an absolut must
The Swedish post-metal band Tid are pretentious with very high ambition in creating music that feels, rather than tell you what to think. They create music that tells of visions of the unseen, a suggestive sound of thoughts.
As a group that only writes, record and rehearse when they are inspired. In that manner they always form music that called for themselves.

Den pressrelease som kom i samband med att du kunde ladda ned deras nya skiva från nätet helt gratis, berättade om att dom fanns. Denna musik med fyra långa spår som sträcker sig bortom tid och rum är intressant att lyssna på något sätt. Den här skivan är faktiskt kanonbra. Och lyssnar du ordentligt så upptäcker du hur skönt det kan vara med 10 minuters långa låtar.

Il ragno cela la sua figura nascondendosi dietro artifici, attende il momento giusto per colpire la sua preda, per poi attendere che si consumi come si consuma la carne. Oggi chiamato “Tid”, tesse la sua alchimia con l’uso del post-metal, progressive-metal e doom. Attende l’incauto ascoltatore che gli si avvicina, lo persuade, prima di avvinghiarvisi, con la sua musica: la sua tela. Deambuli faticosamente per i primi due minuti di “Synvända” che più che un intro assomiglia alla cosmica cadenza di un universo in mutamento, una gigantesca tela alla quale non puoi sfuggire, ci sei già invischiato. I loro suoni sono oscuri ma dilatati, con tanto di tastierista che suggerisce gli universi in mutamento. Alchemici ragni che sputano veleno, una ricerca sonora del 2007 che lancia una sfida alle etichette più lustrate del settore promuovendosi al pubblico con la soluzione “scarica e giudica”. Una voce urlata, straziata, sovrapposta alle lente ritmiche dilatate, dove punte d’elettronica fanno capolino per colorare i cosmi più lontani. Un lavoro certosino, studiato nel dettaglio, nello schema della canzone (dove le ritmiche doom si mescolano alla ricerca progressive), nelle melodiche ottimamente riuscite, nelle tastiere. Una tela capace di ammaliare i palati più sensibili. Arpeggi chiaramente di matrice “post” aggrediti dal velenoso screaming che sembra esortarti: << non muoverti, ascolta: la tua carne marcisce mentre il cosmo si diverte a ruotare attorno all’indefinito>>. Per certi versi glaciali come possono essere gli “Isis”, i “Tid” escono dall’underground svedese proponendosi al pubblico con stile e intelligenza. Le mie orecchie ringraziano.

Sweden-based Tid has just released a four-song EP via free download for your uneasy listening pleasure. They are providing both low and high resolution versions, along with cover art, etc at their website.
The music is slow and methodical hardcore that revolves around ethereal guitar and synth sounds, building from a slow burn into a raging inferno of sonic rage. The band avoids the standard clunky guitar noise for a more open, airy sound that seems to make the music wide open and expansive, building their drama to fill the landscape.
